THE ODENWALD IN TRANSITION
Six-part documentary series on climate and environmental issues in the Odenwald
The six-part documentary series “The Odenwald in Transition” tells stories about climate and environmental topics with a focus on the Odenwald region. At the same time, we highlight the beauty of the Odenwald and provide positive impulses to rediscover nature.
Der Klimawandel ist kein fernes Problem und macht auch vor dem Odenwald nicht halt. Deshalb hat das Unternehmen SPIR STAR gemeinsam mit dem Filmemacher Matthias Kulozik und der Filmproduktionsfirma Seehund Media aus Darmstadt das Filmprojekt „Der Odenwald im Wandel – Natur, Menschen und Klima“ ins Leben gerufen.
In jeder Folge kommen Expert*innen und leidenschaftliche Naturbeobachter*innen zu Wort und erzählen von ihren Erfahrungen oder ihrem Engagement im Odenwald für die Natur. Dabei erklären sie uns Zusammenhänge oder geben Tipps wie sich der Odenwald naturnah und rücksichtsvoll neu entdecken lässt. Wir bekommen erläutert wie die Veränderungen in der Region Odenwald zunehmen und zeigen, wie Menschen, Tiere und die Natur damit umgehen. Jede Folge behandelt einen eigenen Themenbereich: Wald, Streuobstwiese, Biodiversität, nachhaltige Landwirtschaft, Unternehmertum im Wandel und Wasser im Odenwald. Dabei kommen regionale Akteure zu Wort, die sich aktiv für eine nachhaltige Zukunft einsetzen.

Episode 1 – Forest
We visit forester Stephanie Dober from the municipality of Rimbach and learn about her work and how she perceives the challenges of climate change. Additionally, forest educator Mathias Schattenfroh takes us on a walk through the forest with one of his “forest children” groups.
Episode 2 – Orchard Meadows
The Schütz family guides us through their orchard meadow, and we experience what it means to harvest apples and press apple juice. Environmental consultant Marion Jöst from the town of Rimbach tells us why orchard meadows are among the most biodiverse habitats—and why that makes them especially important.
Episode 3 – Biodiversity
Together with wildlife photographer Andreas Schneider, we explore a variety of wild animals as we roam through meadows, forests, and fields. On a walk with biodiversity expert Martin Herbst, we gain insight into why biodiversity is so vital and what each of us can do to support it.
Folge 4 - Unternehmertum
In the fourth episode of “Der Odenwald im Wandel” (“The Odenwald in Transition”), we visit two very different companies from the Odenwald region. First, we get to know Lokay, an environmentally friendly printing company that has been successfully working on its own sustainability for over 20 years and has regularly received prestigious awards for its efforts. Then, we experience how SpirStar AG, a manufacturer of high-pressure hoses, is embarking on its journey to become more sustainable and climate-friendly. In doing so, the company is receiving support from the Heinz Sielmann Foundation, in the person of biologist Dr. Martina Koch.
Folgen 5 - 6 in Produktion
Die Folgen 5 bis 6 sind zurzeit noch in Produktion und werden im Sommer/Herbst 2025 ebenfalls fertiggestellt und veröffentlicht. Dabei behandeln wir die Themenbereiche nachhaltige Landwirtschaft und Wasser im Odenwald.
